Bargaining Update: Strike Authorization Vote & What Comes Next

Sisters, Brothers, and Siblings,

As we move deeper into bargaining, we are approaching one of the most important steps in our process: the Strike Authorization Vote on April 9th and April 16th. This vote is not a strike vote, it is a show of unity and a required step under the IAM Constitution that strengthens our position at the table.

Why This Vote Matters

A strong Strike Authorization Vote does two critical things for our membership:

  • It provides the necessary legal notice to the IAM International, ensuring that if members later vote to strike on the final offer in May, strike benefits can begin without delay.

  • It sends a clear message to Weyerhaeuser that members are united, paying attention, and expecting a fair and equitable agreement. A powerful early vote builds leverage and reinforces our bargaining team’s ability to secure the best possible contract.

This vote is about solidarity, strength, and preparation. It shows the company that our members stand together long before any final offer is presented.

What Happens After the Vote

Once the Strike Authorization Vote is complete, here’s what you can expect:

  • Your bargaining team continues negotiations with Weyerhaeuser, using the strength of the membership’s vote to push for improvements and resolve outstanding issues.

  • We will finalize Tentative Agreements (TAs) as each article is settled. These TAs are the building blocks of the final contract offer.

  • Members will receive a full update on all TAs once the Strike Authorization Vote is complete and bargaining progresses. This update will clearly outline what has been agreed to, what gains have been secured, and what issues remain open.

  • When a Full Tentative Agreement or final proposal is reached, it will be presented to the membership for review. You will have time to read it, ask questions, and understand exactly what is being proposed.

  • A final vote will occur in May, where members will decide whether to accept the company’s final offer or reaffirm their willingness to strike if the offer does not meet expectations.

  • If members reaffirm the Strike Authorization in May, that is the vote that determines whether a strike occurs, not the April vote. The April vote simply prepares us and strengthens our position.

Throughout this process, your involvement and unity remain our greatest source of power. Every vote, every question, every conversation with a coworker builds the solidarity we need to secure a fair contract.
